Working on new things in the studio and eating delicious food. Oh, and than life kind of hit us in the face with the most terrible flu I had in years. All of us sick – a nightmare. But now that spring is around the corner, everything is fine.

Mode ist schön, ist klar. Aber manchmal ist sie eben auch ein wenig mehr. Und dann reicht es nicht aus, zu sagen ‘Och, das ist aber schön. Pastell, sowas will ich im Frühling tragen.’ Denn manchmal ist die Mode gar nicht in erster Linie zum tragen gedacht. Wie in der Kollektion OMAN des niederländischen Kollektivs NOMAN.
Die Farben sind wunderbar, die Formen auch – aber es drängt sich eben mehr als bei anderen Kollektionen die Frage nach dem Konzept auf. Ja richtig, quengelig ist sie diese Frage, und sie zieht noch einige andere mit sich. Was sind das für Kopfbedeckungen? Was ist das für ein Material? Warum kriege ich das Gefühl, als seien einzelne Elemente in einer Mischtrommel verwirbelt worden, um dann in den unterschiedlichsten Kombinationen wieder herausgefischt zu werden?

Kurz mal nachgefragt bei Selina Parr, die zusammen mit Lara Tolman das Zweiergespann NOMAN bildet. Als Ausgangspunkt der Kollektion diente rundgestrickter Tricotstoff, der in seinen Eigenschaften erhalten bleiben sollte. So kamen keine traditionellen Schnittmuster zum Einsatz, die Kleidungsstücke ergeben sich aus Einschnitten im Material und dem Aneinanderfügen verschiedener Elemente. Die Hüte unterstreichen das Konzeptuelle der Kollektion, haben aber keine tiefere Bedeutung.
So – und Lust auf Pastelltöne hab ich jetzt trotzdem noch.

I am intruiged by the collection of dutch fashion collective NOMAN. Pastells, pieces of fabric coming out of skirts or pants, and fascinating hats. What is it all about? Well – I asked Selina Parr who makes up one part of NOMAN together with production designer Lara Tolman. The starting point for the collection was a kind of jersey that is knitted in the round. All the patterns are made up with the idea of keeping the material round, so cut outs werde made and pieces were puzzled together – avoiding traditional methods of patternmaking. The hats are just to underline the conceptual part and have no deeper meaning.

Ich denke, ich habe es schon das ein oder andere Mal erwähnt – E-Mails, die wirklich interessant sind, landen nur selten im Blog-Postfach. Umso mehr freute mich deshalb die Mail des in Amsterdam lebenden Architekten Michael Schoner, in der er mir sein Projekt coat-hanger vorstellte. Es geht darum um die Augenbrauen von Nummer 5, zwei Kilo Salz und ein Kilo Zucker. Und um zauberhaft schwebende Kleidung. Ihr habt es nicht so richtig verstanden? Ich im ersten Moment auch nicht. Deshalb ja auch das Video.

The Coathanger Chopper is a radio-controlled coat-hanger, dangling from a mobile, which allows it to move around in space.
It is powered by two 1,8 watt computer fans, that can be tilted up and down like the eyebrows of Number 5 (the robot of the 1986 movie “short circuit”), thus causing the hanger to spin or move for – or backward. The downward draft of the rotors causes light cloth to wave. In motion the cloth appear to be floating, sometimes moving slow sometimes slinging by fast on the levers of the mobile. Two kilos of salt and one kilo of sugar act as counterweights.
