Das Sprengel Museum Hannover zeigt noch bis zum 25. Mai eine Ausstellung der Fotografin Helen Levitt anlässlich Ihrer Auszeichnung mit dem “Spectrum” Preis der Stiftung Niedersachsen.
Über Jahrzehnte hinweg dokumentierte Levitt die Menschen auf den Straßen New Yorks – bevorzugt in den ärmeren Vierteln wie Brooklyn oder der Bronx. Alltägliche Situationen sind ihr liebstes Motiv.
»Die Ästhetik ist bereits in der Wirklichkeit vorhanden«
Schön, das Frau Levitt das so positiv sieht, denn das, was sich einem sonst manchmal in der Wirklichkeit bietet, würde ich nicht mit dem Wort “Ästhetik” in Verbindung bringen. Aber es fasziniert mich trotzdem.

In Hannover the Sprengel Museum shows the work of Hellen Levitt in honour of her being awarded with the “Spectrum” Award.
For decades Levitt documented the life on the streets of New York – preferable in the rougher hoods like Brooklyn or the Bronx. In her work she favours everyday situations.

Mrs Levitt is definitely a positiv thinking women, since what one has to face in real life is mostly not something I would describe as being aesthetical. Still it fascinates me.
